Voluntary retirements and people leaving the university for other jobs are expected to make up much of the WSU’s required 6.3 percent budget cut for the second year of the state’s 2009-2011 biennium budget.
At a special budget forum held Monday afternoon, President Elson S. Floyd said he and Provost Warwick M. Bayly also are looking at ways to make the university’s administration more efficient.
“We do not want to compromise the quality of what happens in our classrooms,” Floyd said.
The university is reducing the size of next year’s freshman class relative to the previous two years, he said, and is also looking at ways to cut costs without shifting more of the burden to students and their families.
“We will look at everything we do with a keen eye toward administration,” he said.
About 50 people attended the late afternoon forum in the CUB auditorium, which included remarks by Larry Ganders, the university’s director of legislative affairs.
