A Nobel Prize-winning economist will discuss “The Nature and Causes of the Current U.S. Recession” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29, in Todd Hall 116, as the School of Economic Sciences hosts its free, public Bertha C. and Roy E. Leigh Distinguished Lecture. A reception will follow.
Speaker Robert E. Lucas, Jr., is the John Dewey Distinguished Service professor of economics at the University of Chicago. He received the 1995 Nobel Memorial Prize in economics for “having developed and applied the hypothesis of rational expectations, and thereby having transformed macroeconomic analysis and deepened our understanding of economic policy.”
He will examine the recession and possible policy responses, including the best regulatory environment to prevent future financial crises.
The lecture was established in 2001 by the late Roy E. Leigh in honor of his wife Bertha. They are the family of Duane Leigh, professor emeritus and former chair of the WSU Economics Department.
