SPOKANE – The health science research of developing and established scholars will be presented during the Eighth Annual Inland Northwest Health Sciences Research Symposium noon-5 p.m. Friday, April 9, in the Health Sciences Building lobby and Room 110 at WSU Spokane.
One-hour poster presentation sessions will begin at noon and 4 p.m. From 1 to 4 p.m., several speakers will present their research:
John Roll, associate dean of research for the College of Nursing, will present “Understanding and Treating Methamphetamine Addiction: A Scientific Account.”
He will discuss initiation and maintenance of methamphetamine use. He will present the latest data on treatment of methamphetamine use disorders.
Cardiologist Michael Ring, Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, and Kenneth Daratha, assistant professor of nursing, will present “Health Outcomes Following Coronary Artery Stenting.”
They have collaborated with the Institute for Systems Medicine to develop a regional research and clinical support tool, the Spokane Community Clinical Data Repository (SCCDR). The presentation will demonstrate how their research aims to improve health outcomes for cardiac patients in the Inland Northwest.
Wound care nurse Anita Voz, from Kootenai Health, will present, “Who is Turning the Patients?” a survey study.
A fourth presentation will be made by a developing scholar chosen from an invitee-only session held earlier in the day.
The Inland Northwest Health Sciences Research Symposium is an interdisciplinary and collaborative effort between the WSU Colleges of Pharmacy and Nursing, WSU Spokane, Eastern Washington University, Inland Northwest Health Services, Kootenai Health, Sacred Heart Medical Center, WSU Student Nurse Leaders, the WWAMI Medication Education Program, and Sigma Theta Tau International, Delta Chi Chapter.
