Oregon Senate provides new opportunity, challenge

PULLMAN, Wash. – Betsy Close, a Washington State University alumnus, was recently sworn in as one of Oregon’s newest state senator. This also makes Close one of only eight women serving in the state senate.
 
Close received her bachelor of arts degree in home economics from WSU in 1972. She later received a master’s degree from Oregon State University.
 
“I have learned to accept criticism and be forthright in defending myself,” Close said. “Making sure people have jobs and income is the top priority.”
