RICHLAND, Wash. – A free, public exhibit showing how the ubiquitous poster is art as well as communication medium opens with a reception at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in Washington State University Tri-Cities’ Art Center, Consolidated Information Center, 2770 Crimson Way, Richland.
“Poster Power” features local artists and graphic designers including Sara Nelson and Laura Gable plus graduates of the Digital Technology and Culture program at WSU Tri-Cities.
While social media has grabbed a large chunk of organizations’ attention and budgets as a way to promote services and events, an innovative, well-designed poster remains a powerful publicity tool, said Heather Willoughby, exhibit coordinator and an artist who spends much of her time designing posters.
“We wanted artists to address their interpretations of what a poster is to show the impact posters can have,” she said.
The Art Center is open noon-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday. The exhibit will run through Nov. 8.
