Experts on the 1992-3 E. coli outbreak in the West will visit Washington State University Monday, April 2.They are Seattle attorney and WSU alumnus Bill Marler, known as the nation’s leading foodborne illness attorney and expert in food safety, and nonfiction author Jeff Benedict, whose book, “Poisoned: The True Story of the Deadly E. Coli Outbreak That Changed the Way Americans Eat,” was published in 2011. The outbreak, known as the “Jack in the Box” case, left four dead and more than 700 others seriously ill; many of them were children.At 7 p.m. in the Smith Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE), room 203, Marler and Benedict will present “Food Safety 2012,” a look at what has changed in food production and presentation since the E. coli “Jack in the Box” case in the early 1990s. A book signing is set to follow in the Smith CUE Atrium.
