Ferdinand’s ice cream competes for top flavor

PULLMAN, Wash. – Ferdinand’s famous huckleberry ice cream currently is a competitor in the national Progressive Dairyman’s 2012 Flavor Faceoff.

There will be four opportunities for people to vote. The winner will be announced at the end of July.

Ferdinand’s huckleberry ice cream beat out three different Idaho flavors to make it to the national competition. More information about the competitors and voting can be found on the Progressive Dairyman website (click and scroll to the bottom of the page).

Dale Moore, Washington State University Extension veterinarian, entered the huckleberry ice cream from WSU’s Ferdinand’s Ice Cream Shoppe in the competition, which began early this month..

“Ferdinand’s Ice Cream is the best in the Northwest, and huckleberry represents the Northwest like no other flavor,” Moore wrote in her entry. “The milk for Ferdinand’s Ice Cream comes from our very own campus dairy with some of the friendliest cows you’ll meet!”

The Flavor Faceoff features 20 participants representing four regions. In the Northwest, Ferdinand’s is competing against three Idaho entries.
