PULLMAN, Wash. A free, public program of recent music for piano and electronics will be presented by guest pianist Kari Johnson at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, in Kimbrough concert hall, part of the annual Washington State University Festival of Contemporary Art Music Feb. 2-4. Johnson has performed at new music festivals across the country. She is a strong supporter of new music and an active performer known for playing with firm musicality and dramatic flair. Her WSU performance will include works by Jason Bolte, Christopher Biggs, Dan VanHassel and WSU faculty member Scott Blasco.
A CD of Blasco’s composition, performed by Johnson, recently was released on the Irritable Hedgehog label.
A faculty member of Avila University in Kansas City, Mo., Johnson maintains a piano studio through the University of Missouri-Kansas City Community Music and Dance Academy. She is an active adjudicator and presenter for local music teachers’ associations and universities.
