Professor Frank Morgan from Williams College who is famous for his work in geometric measure theory and his ability to inspire and explain, will give a talk Wednesday night, January 25, at 7:00 PM in the Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE) room 202. There will be a reception with refreshments after the talk in the Hacker Lounge on the second floor of Neill Hall.
Professor Morgan’s talk will look at some of the mathematics behind the recent solution of the Poincare Problem, a century old problem that was solved by the eccentric mathematician Grisha Perelman, who became even better known for refusing several very prestigious prizes for the solution, including one that came with 1,000,000.00 in prize money!
