PULLMAN, Wash. The demolition portion of Washington State University’s Martin Stadium reconstruction project is nearly complete. Construction will begin with pouring concrete footings to support a giant crane.
“This crane will be the largest we’ve ever brought on campus,” said Larry Harris, WSU Capital Planning and Development project manager. “It’s about 200 feet tall with the ability to lift eight tons at the extreme end.”

The project is on track for a September completion.
“We’ve shortened this schedule as much as we could,” Harris said. “Right now it’s on time and on budget, and that’s our game plan.”
The giant center crane, due to arrive at WSU Jan. 20 or 21, will be one of three on the project. A 300-ton crane will work at the west end and a 500-ton crane at the east end.
The first construction work will include pouring large concrete footings for the commissary and elevator sections of the project.
The first visible parts of the new structure will be steel beams and precast concrete sections for the seating risers and the floor of the club lounge. Construction on these sections is set to begin the first part of February.
